The timber industry is again under attack by the Greens and Labor in Victoria. Since the Andrew’s government took the unprecedented action and purchased the Heywood mill, the timber market has been skewed in favour of the government owned mill. The other mills in Victoria, who employ over hundreds of people, are now facing the reality that after 2021 they might have to close.
This lack of supply certainty for the timber industry should come as no surprise. The government’s long term ally, the Greens, are constantly lobbying for the establishment of new national parks and greater environmental restrictions to lock Victorians out of the bush and destroy the timber industry. This will kill jobs and decimate regional communities.
