Earlier this year, the NSW government proposed the establishment of new marine parks that would stretch from Newcastle in the north to Wollongong in the south. This is included popular fishing spots around Sydney harbour. This decision was reversed by the government due to the enormous political and community backlash. In an election year, you would expect this from the government and it wouldn’t be unexpected for the Liberal government to follow similar policy if it is re-elected in March. If the Labor party is elected in March, recreational fishing will not be out of trouble. When the Labor party was last in office, they too proposed more marine parks which would lock fishos out.
The Liberal Democrats believe that Liberal and Labor governments care more about winning over the inner-city Greens voter than they are about the rights of fishos across the state.
The Liberal Democrats believe that the Liberal and Labor parties should not be reducing the rights of fishos to engage in their perfectly legitimate and legal sport.
