At over 40 cents a litre, fuel excise is a among the greediest taxes. Drivers already pay registration, license fees, import taxes, luxury tax, stamp duty and GST when buying a car; to then pay GST and excise on petrol is exorbitant and punitive.
Only a fraction of the tax collected is used to fund national road infrastructure projects and repair roads, with approximately 75% going into general revenue.
Senator Duncan Spender is committed to abolishing fuel excise, to bring back the distant time when fuel was 99 cents a litre, and you could fill up at the bowser without breaking the bank.
Drivers need to band together and voice their frustration. Sign our petition to send a message to Government that drivers are onto their double-dipping tax scheme.
