Campbell Newman, AO, has an agenda for Brisbane and South East Queensland and wants to take the fight to Canberra. Back in politics, Newman is now running as Lead Senate Candidate for the Liberal Democrats in Queensland.
He left the LNP knowing that they had lost their way, and were no longer putting the people of Brisbane and South East Queensland first, as a major party should. Campbell was known for never quitting and getting things done as Lord Mayor of Brisbane from 2004 to 2011 and Premier of Queensland from 2012 to 2015.
“Brisbane and surrounds will flood again, this year proves that 2011 was not a one-off event." Newman says.
As Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman fought for flood mitigation and buy-back schemes which were rejected by the State Labor Government, who are now going hat-in-hand to the Federal Government for money to support a scheme they rejected.
“That’s why I’ve joined the Liberal Democrats!"
“As your senator in Canberra, I will continue to fight for the three projects that should have been fast tracked including two new dams: Warrill Creek - Willowbank; Linville - Upper Brisbane River and the raising of the Wivenhoe Dam Wall. The risks and environmental benefits have been known since 2014 and the Palaszczuk government shelved them in 2015. These plans would have seen up to 10,000 homes and businesses protected from these latest floods.”
Campbell Newman & The Liberal Democrats Will Fight For All Queenslanders
The Liberal Democrats and he will fight to protect the values and institutions held by Queenslanders and deliver for all of them, not just a select few. He’ll also fight to have the Inland Rail continue on to Gladstone and save the southern suburbs of Brisbane from a hugely disruptive railway line.
This will also deliver the benefit of fewer coal trains transiting through the city. Australian small business owners and entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of our economy and have been left behind by Canberra. Newman and the Liberal Democrats will help them to thrive.
“I can no longer sit back and watch politicians in Canberra do nothing and deliver nothing, but I need your support to hold them to account,” Newman says.
“We need to get rid of the career politicians who only think about their own future, not yours. You don’t have to like me, but these issues and more need myself and the Liberal Democrats to fight for all.”
Campbell Newman and his senate running mate Tegan Grainger vow to take the fight to Canberra and keep the faceless backroom powerbrokers at bay.
