The new Victorian state parliament sat for less than a week before calls to end duck hunting were heard in the chamber. The newly elected Liberal member for Brighton, James Newbury has called for an end to duck hunting in Victoria. This seems odd as Brighton is a suburb on the beach near Melbourne, not in the regional areas where duck hunting takes place. Inner city politicians from the major parties are trying to ban long established activities simply because they do not approve.
The Liberal Democrats stand up for shooters, always have and always will. The recent state election saw two Liberal Democrats, Tim Quilty and David Limbrick elected to the state upper house. Our members will vote against any bill which attempts to prohibit duck hunting in Victoria or strips shooters of their rights.
