Abolish Stamp Duty
Stamp duty is a needless and inefficient tax that inflates the cost of living and hampers household mobility. To the extent that the State Government needs this revenue, it should be replaced with land tax, which is both more efficient and less distortionary. Exemptions would apply for those who have already paid stamp duty.
- Abolish stamp duty
- Leaving the existing land tax system in place, create a secondary small, flat land tax (Land Tax B) aimed at collecting revenue formerly from stamp duty that could not be offset by lower spending and gains from efficiency
- Issue those who have already paid stamp duty on their current properties a Land Tax B credit for the amount they have paid
- Issue those who have already paid stamp duty on their current vehicles a Registration credit for the amount they have paid
Abolish Payroll Tax
Payroll tax is a blatant tax on jobs that discourages new job creation, hurts small businesses and increases unemployment.
- Abolish payroll tax
- Reduce spending in other areas to cover the shortfall
Abolish Gambling Tax
Gamblers, betting agencies and gaming venues are unfairly singled out by the New South Wales Government by targeted taxation. While gambling addiction is real and should be met with sympathy, this is also a perfectly legitimate industry that provides employment and leisure to many people. The tax is an affront to voluntary exchange and contract.
- Repeal the Betting Tax Act 2001
- Abolish any tax that directly targets gambling, gamblers, bookmakers or gaming venues
- Reduce spending in other areas to cover the shortfall
