Glenn was born in Sydney in 1957. He had a difficult upbringing, having been born with Spina Bifida, which led to his left leg being amputated when he was eighteen.
Despite this, Glenn completed his HSC at Newcastle Tech and received a B.Sc. in Biology and a Diploma of Education from Newcastle University. Due in no small part to his strong Christian convictions, Glenn went on to teach science and physical education at several Christian schools over the next ten years, and became heavily involved in sports for people with disabilities. In 2000 he represented Australia in the Paralympics, and won gold for the Australian National Kayak Marathon team in South Africa in 2017. He is also a passionate foster parent.
