She has Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of NSW and also studied art, philosophy and politics. She currently lives in Paddington and works in North Sydney. Lucy is an enthusiastic sportswoman; she cycles to work every day and enjoys hockey, swimming and Yoga.
Lucy first became involved with the Liberal Democrats in the 2007
Federal election. She was impressed by the fact that the candidates were
not career politicians but everyday people standing up for their rights
and working towards freedom. She was also attracted to the ideology
of the party, with individual liberty as its main underpinning; it
draws together two areas that Lucy believes are important for a stable
community: liberal social policy and free market economics.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Higgins By-ElectionThe same will be occurring in Higgins, where the LDP candidate is Isaac ROBERTS. If you are able to help with Isaac's campaign, please contact Ross Currie at victoria@ldp.org.au or Isaac Roberts at isaac@isaacroberts.com Isaac works as a Chartered Accountant with a large Melbourne accounting firm. He has specific expertise in the areas of tax policy and legislation, and regularly provides advice in relation to those areas to large private companies and high wealth individuals. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Annual Conference - Roger Douglas Guest Speaker Make a date in your 2010 diary to attend the LDP National Conference on Sunday 24th January in Sydney. Our VIP guest speaker will be Sir Roger Douglas, New Zealand MP and a member of the ACT Party. ACT supports similar principles to the LDP. Sir Roger is best-known for his prominent role in the radical economic restructuring of New Zealand's economy undertaken by the Labour Government during the 1980s ("Rogernomics"). In 1993 he founded the Association of Consumers and Taxpayers (the forerunner of the ACT New Zealand Party) and in 2008 he returned to Parliament as an ACT Party backbencher. It is an honour to have Sir Roger address the LDP’s National Conference, so make sure you are there to hear him. There is no charge and all members are welcome. The Conference will be held at the Balmain Leagues Club, Victoria Road, Rozelle, commencing at 2pm. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Two membership drives were undertaken during the last month. Sexpo Sexpo is the world's largest lifestyle and sexuality exhibition. The aim of the exhibition is to provide a fun vibrant atmosphere for like minded people to enjoy and find information on all things adult. It is not just about sex, it is about sexuality and adult lifestyles. Lasting four days, there are hundreds of exhibitors and something for everyone. The LDP booked a stand to recruit members, based on the themes of adult choice and opposition to censorship. As a result the party now has 380 brand new members. Welcome all! Wakefield Park Burnout 57 new members were signed up at the Wakefield Park burnout in Goulburn. Opposition to unreasonable traffic laws and police harassment were the main themes of the day. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Ant and the Grasshopper OLD
VERSION The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The
grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and
plays the summer away.. Come
winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The
grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold. MORAL
OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself! ________________________________ MODERN
VERSION The
ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long,
building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The
grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and
plays
the summer away. Come
winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and
demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm
and well fed while he is cold and starving. Channels
7, 9 and 10,the ABC and SBS show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the
ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. Australia is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so? Kermit
the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green.'
Worldvision
stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, 'We shall
overcome.' Tim Costello then has the group kneel down to pray to God
for the grasshopper's sake. Prime
Minister Rudd condemns the ant and blames John Howard, Robert Menzies, Capt James Cook, and the Pope for the
grasshopper's plight. Bob
Brown exclaims in an interview on Today Tonight that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper,
and calls for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair
share. Finally,
Labor in conjunction with the Greens draft the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retrospective to the
beginning of the summer. The
ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his
retrospective taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government and given to the
grasshopper. The
story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food
while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to
be the ant's old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper
doesn't maintain it. The
ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again. The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous and peaceful, neighbourhood.
